Under Lukasch’s leadership the museum has been awarded the title “National Memorial” by the State Minister for Culture and Media of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In 1999, the museum was the first in the former East Germany to be awarded the “European Museum of the Year Award – Special Commendation” by the European Museum Forum.
Bernd Lukasch is vice chairman of the museum’s association of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. He is the author of a biography about the Lilienthal brothers („Erfinderleben“ (inventors’ lives), Berlin 2005) and author/ editor of numerous publications in popular and history journals.
Prior to coming to the museum, he was employed at the department of physics at the Humboldt-University in Berlin.
Lukasch holds a Doctor of Science in Physics. He is married and the father of three grown children.
