The Wrights of North Carolina! Yes, we claim the brothers as our own North Carolinians. Only one facet of the “friendlier” rivalry with the state of Ohio. The feature article of this issue of Our State magazine recounts how the Wrights’ time in North Carolina, their experiments, and the invention that changed the world in the “Event of the Century” has shaped our state’s image and our own identity. And it is written by Todd Dulaney of Ohio, now a resident of North Carolina and senior editor with the magazine. Additionally, Dulaney is a graduate of Wright State University and his mother attended Wilbur Wright High School. Dulaney writes with a balancing pen when it comes to flight heritage.
